I am thinking of becoming one. Is it true to make good money you have to be corrupt? How about the people who defend the innocent side in murder cases, etc.?

To be a good lawyer, you have to be a good actor. You do not have to be corrupt, you need to be able to do, what your client has hired you to do, and if it is to represent a guilty person, you have to find ways to make them look innocent, and this includes, lying, trickery, anything it takes, they paid you to do a job. Its you who has to deal with what you are morally ok with doing as a daily part of your job.
I don’t believe that you have to be corrupt to be a good attorney. You do have to be smart and understand the law and the needs of your clients. As an attorney, you do have to remember innocent until proven guilty and everyone has the right to legal counsel………even those who commit disgusting and vile crimes. Good luck!
No but judges and prosecutors are elected and very few people pay attention to them. The only ones who do are lawyers. The local bar association will rate them on how well they get their clients off. Lawyers and the firms who endorse a particular judge do so because they rule in their favor. For example if a law firm representing drunk drivers backs a candidate it is because they are lenient or drunk driving and a menace to the rest of us. If you have a different lawyer or with out one you will be screwed by them but that is a different story.
